Step #6: Create Acceptable Use and Privacy Policies

What policies do I need to have in place?

The Internet supports communication via a wide variety of mechanisms. Your Merit/MTA Standard Services package includes two of the most widely used communication tools: e-mail accounts and a web server. You have a responsibility to ensure that appropriate care is taken with any information you share via your web server and/or e-mail. This includes respecting the privacy of others with regard to the use of personal data or information, complying with applicable copyright laws and licensing regulations for information and programs you use, and adhering to Merit Network's acceptable use policies for the MichNet network. We urge you to develop your own acceptable use and privacy policies and make them readily available from your website. You may find it helpful to refer to Merit's policies when shaping your township's policies.
