Account Setup

Step #3: Get Your Computer Online

Internet access is a multi-step process. The first time you get connected you'll need to configure several pieces of software. After the first time, all you'll need to do is double click on an icon and the computer will automatically place the phone call that allows you to connect to the Internet.

The number of steps involved in getting Internet access depends on whether this is the first time you are ever using your modem and/or if it's your first time connecting to the Internet with your computer. Our example, will assume it's your first time ever using your modem and connecting to the Internet.

In order to get connected you'll need to:

  1. Add the modem to the list of hardware devices your computer recognizes and can operate.

  2. Configure the modem/dialing software to dial-in to MichNet.

Before you configure your modem/dialing software, it is helpful to look up your MichNet dial-in number. Use either the Dial-in Numbers List or the DialAccess Searchbase to find your local number.
